Loretta Butler-Turner

Distinguished Political & Business Leader | 1st Deputy Leader of the Opposition in The Bahamian Government

Loretta Butler-Turner is a Bahamian mortician and politician. She was the leader of the opposition in the Bahamian Parliament from December 2016 to May 2017.

Butler became an embalmer and mortuary director in her father's business, Butlers’ Funeral Homes and Crematorium of Nassau.[2] She has provided services for several notable deaths, particularly for singer Aaliyah[3] and TV personality Daniel Wayne Smith (son of Anna Nicole Smith).[4]

In 2007, she was elected to parliament for the Montagu Constituency as a member of the Free National Movement (FNM) party and appointed Minister of State for Social Development.[1]

Butler served as Vice President of the Inter-American Commission of Women from 2009 to 2011, completing the term of Jeanette Carrillo Madrigal of Costa Rica who had resigned.[5]

In 2012, Butler-Taylor ran for the Long Island seat [6] and was elected. That same year, she was chosen as the Deputy Leader of the Free National Movement.[7]

Butler ran for the party leadership in 2014[8] but was defeated by Hubert Minnis. (Peter Turnquest replaced her as Deputy Leader.[9])

Finally, in December 2016, Butler-Turner was sworn in as the first woman leader of the opposition in the Bahamas history.[10] Four days later, Butler came under fire from her predecessor, Hubert Minnis, who vowed to have her leadership rescinded.[11][12]

In April 2017, she was thrown out of the party and ran as an independent in the general election the following month.[13] She received less than 300 votes, thus ending her parliamentary career.

Angeli Millan

TV producer, writer, actor

Angeli Millan is a television producer, writer and actor. Born and raised in Seattle, she always dreamt of moving to the big city to pursue the bright lights of the entertainment industry. And so, when she was 18, she moved to... Walla Walla, Washington? Yup, her dream would have to wait a beat. After picking up a B.A. in Psychology at Whitman College, she moved back to Seattle to work at a couple unknown startups (Amazon and NBA.com) before finally making the move to Los Angeles. There, she fine tuned her love of comedy as a performer and writer at the famous Groundlings sketch comedy group. She landed her first gig in a comedy writers room on the ABC multi-cam BETTER WITH YOU and went on to write and develop for single-cam, primetime animation, features and children's content in the broadcast, cable and streaming platforms.

Her credits include: THE MUPPETS (ABC), THE CLEVELAND SHOW (FOX), THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY (Disney+), GORDITA CHRONICLES (HBO Max), DISJOINTED (Netflix), THE EXES (TV Land), US AND THEM (FOX), FAMILY TOOLS (ABC), HEALING POWERS OF DUDE (Netflix), and most notably as Executive Producer/Showrunner of BOOMERANG (BET).

Lisa Scott-Founds

President and CEO of Winterfest, Inc.

I am a high energy, self motivated executive. Over the past 27 years with Winterfest, I have guided the event to its current standing as “The World’s Most Watched Boat Parade.” The Parade is the seventh largest one-day live spectator event in the country, listed in Reader’s Digest as one of America’s 100 Best, the largest one-day spectator event in Florida and it has been named one of the 20th Best Parades in the World (out of over 50,000) by the International Festival and Events Association and the USA Today. As director of a not-for-profit organization, I have attracted and closed such significant sponsors as Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Nokia, Verizon, Coca-Cola, Ralston Purina, Nestle, Sprint, Robert Mondavi Wines, Southwest Airlines, Sara Lee, Publix Supermarkets and many more. Having both creative and analytical balance, I readily operate from the ‘big picture.’ As a previous owner/operator of two companies, I have strength in the disciplines of day-to-day profitable operations. I revel in challenge and enthusiastically approach those challenges every day.

Denison Yachting

Bob Denison has accomplished 3 cool things in his life: 1) He was the Marlins first bat boy; 2) He married the prettiest girl alive, Daniella. Together they figured out how to have kids: Rivers, Nora Summer + Scout; and 3) Bob gets to leads the best team of yacht brokers and industry professionals in the world at Denison Yachting.

There are about 175 of them and they work out of 22 offices across the U.S. and now in Monaco.

Back in 1948, Frank & Gertrude Denison visited Fort Lauderdale on their honeymoon and decided to stay, buying a local business and renaming it Broward Marine. This business went on to build military vessels to support U.S. and Allied Forces, and later built private yachts, at one point becoming the largest employer in Fort Lauderdale.

Broward Marine built more private yachts over 80’ than any boat-builder in the world in the 20th Century. When Bob talks about ‘standing on the shoulders of giants’, he means it. He would be homeless if it wasn’t for the support of those that went before him, specifically his grandparents, parents, and 2 incredible uncles.

What is Inspire Initiative?

Let’s Celebrate Women!

Welcome to the Inspire Initiative…a movement created by USSA President, Kitty McGowan in 2022 to celebrate, empower, showcase and support the women of the yachting industry.   While often outnumbered by the “boys” in nearly every sector of our industry, we’ve succeeded and grown in numbers….oftentimes doing what we do in high heels and a skirt!

The Inspire Initiative continues to build on its previous success and overwhelmingly succeeds in elevating the experience for USSA members and guests. The variety of keynote speakers and panelists share their tales of breaking through their own barriers and finding their way toward accomplishments. This unique blend of speakers and panelists, allows attendees to walk away feeling strong, dynamic, powerful, intelligent, fun and most importantly…themselves!

The Inspire Initiative is NOT another association to join.  Initiative is defined as: A new attempt to achieve a goal or solve a problem by taking charge with forward steps.  The Inspire Initiative serves as a continuing reminder of our individual and collective strength through a platform designed to unite all of us in the focus of creating something bigger.

With past panelists including to name a few: Lesley Visser, Hall of Fame Sportscaster; Dara Torres, 12-time Olympic champion; Captain Sandy Yawn, Bravo’s Below Deck; Captain JoAnn Burdian USCG Sector Miami; Carolyn Aronson, CEO “It’s a 10 Haircare”; Katheryn Burchett, COO, Safe Harbor Marinas and Rose Damen, Damen Yachts as well as many more talented women from throughout the yachting industry and many others.

The spark that was ignited during our inaugural in 2022 has grown into a roaring fire spreading our positive and inspiring message worldwide! We are working to build on previous success…to engage, challenge, educate and encourage all of us to be an inspiration in our own lives.  This year’s program will grow this concept in a more organic approach as we creating a platform that will invigorate and inspire all who attend by bringing together some new assets and including a variety of women who have broken through their own barriers and relentlessly pushed their way to the top.

We have many opportunities to get involved but cannot do it without sponsors.  Please take a few moments to review how you can help join the initiative and be the match that ignites a spark within us as we create a flame in the lives of others.

Thank you to our 2024 Sponsors!
